What is the Bearshead Challenge?

The Bearshead Challenge is the ultimate test of the skills required of an ATC Cadet. It is a demanding competition, held annually, that assesses ability and knowledge in various disciplines ranging from Land Navigation to Aircraft recognition.

Selected Squadrons are invited to field teams of five cadets to participate in this prestigious event.

Are You up to the Challenge?

This years winning team came from 992 (Malmesbury) Sqn - they were!

To take part in the Bearshead Challenge, Cadets must be physically fit and able to think all the time. Could you recognize the difference between a Tornado and an F111 when you're tired and exhausted?

How about a bowline or a figure of eight knot? Could you treat a casualty suffering from hypothermia? - fine in the classroom, what if its wet and windy and you're miles from anywhere?

We test your skills differently....

Hillwalking/Navigation, Rock Climbing/Abseiling, Canoeing, First Aid, Selected Aviation Subjects, Orienteering, Mountain Biking, Archey and more...
